Dr. J and Dr. Helen are both certified and licensed specialists in their specific area of dental care. Our office focuses on treating the dental and developmental problems of children exclusively, ensuring the best long-term outcome for your child's health.
Dr. Rene Johe (Orthodontist)
Dr. Johe has completed an extensive three year program in clinical orthodontics while simultaneously participating in the prestigious Dental Scientist Award research program at Rutgers University. Dr. Johe is a licensed specialist in orthodontics. He has also completed a 2 year program in the study of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs). Dr. Johe has served as president of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontists, is currently on its executive board, and practices the most modern orthodontic techniques currently available with the goal of achieving the best results possible for his patients. Dr. Johe has been providing personalized expert orthodontic care to THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS FOR OVER 20 YEARS. That's right, Dr. Johe treats adults too!

Dr. Johe, the grand-child of a Holocaust survivor, was born in Germany and emigrated as a young child to the great state of New Jersey. A long term resident of Northern New Jersey and an avid hiker and cyclist, Dr. Johe is active in promoting and maintaining the natural beauty of the local area for our future generations.
DR. HELEN TONG (Pediatric dentist)
Dr. Helen is not only a pediatric dentist but also a mom of three wonderful girls (including identical twins). She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and completed her dental education at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, where she received a 2 year Health Professions Scholarship from the U.S. Army and earned her DMD degree in 2006. She then went on to serve two years as Captain as a general dentist at Fort Eustis, VA. Subsequently, Dr. Helen moved back to New York to join a practice focusing primarily on children and patients with special needs; she then immediately realized her most enjoyable days were spent treating toddlers and children.
With her heart set on pediatric dentistry, she went on to pursue her pediatric specialty training at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. There, she received extensive training in treating children with special needs, pediatric trauma care, sedation and hospital dentistry. In addition to her love of pediatrics, Dr. Helen participates in the annual Give Kids A Smile day and is a volunteer with TeamSmile, donating her time helping low-income children receive free dental care.
DR. Jennifer akkaway (Pediatric dentist)
Dr. Jennifer Akkaway, DDS is a Pediatric Dentist certified with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and has a passion for providing exceptional dental care to children. She graduated from Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine in 2004, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery and becoming a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the prestigious national dental honor society. Following her dental education, Dr. Jen completed a General Practice Residency at Sepulveda VA Hospital in California in 2005, honing her skills in various aspects of dentistry.
Her dedication to pediatric dentistry led her to complete her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She received specialized training in conscious sedation, operating room dentistry, and working with special needs children. Dr. Jen's commitment to excellence in dentistry has been recognized by her peers, as she was named New Jersey Monthly Choice Top Dentist in 2023. Moreover, she was honored by parents as one of New Jersey's favorite kids' docs in the same year, a testament to her outstanding and compassionate dental care for children.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Jen is a devoted mother who cherishes spending time with her two children. She also enjoys expressing her creativity and energy through salsa dancing, a passion that adds vibrancy to her life and work.
